SCIENTIFIC LINUX 7.5 HAS BEEN RELEASED ON 10 MAY 2018 WITH NEW FEATURES, UPDATES AND BUG FIXES
Now we have another updated news in open source world i.e. Scientific Linux 7.5 has been released on 10 May 2018 which is completely based on Redhat Enterprise Linux 7.5. As we all know that RHEL 7.5 was released on 10 April 2018. Post release of this new version of RHEL all other operating system’s which are developed based on RHEL started to release it’s new version’s. Just after 1 month of RHEL release CentOS 7.5 released and now it’s turn of Scientific Linux 7.5. Pat Riehecky (Developer at Scientific Linux) announced this new release on official forum.

With this new release it has come with some new updates and fixes. So Now let’s have a look at what are the major changes in Scientific Linux 7.5. As per official announcement they updated the sl-release and it can use 7.5 repos. kmod has been published with 7.5 security kernel. OpenAFS now updated to it’s latest version i.e. OpenAFS 220.127.116.11. They also improved the Anaconda and due to this improvement the anaconda will not crash when offer to open bugzilla link with TUV. NetworkManager.i686 is no longer packaged for Scientific Linux 7.5.
If you are currently using the older version of Scientific Linux and want to install the latest one i.e. Scientific Linux 7 without formatting then it’s very easy to do so. But before upgrading to newest version if you have installed the NetworkManager.i686 on previous version then first run the below command to remove the package.
$ yum remove NetworkManager.i686
All application’s which are depend on exiv2-libs library may needs to be rebuild. They also mentioned in release notes that all ZFS users should review this Github article.
